Louisiana opens $33M mental health hospital

On March 6, the Louisiana Department of Health opened Central Louisiana State Hospital in Pineville following a $33 million renovation and relocation project.

The new facility can provide care for up to 116 patients with severe mental illnesses, with a focus on rehabilitation. The new hospital offers enhanced safety, security, and a more effective therapeutic environment, with a primary focus of providing intermediate inpatient psychiatric care to adults. 

Treatment services include individual, group, and family therapy; recreational and occupational therapy; pharmacotherapy; speech and hearing therapy; nutritional counseling; dental services; pastoral care services, and limited diagnostic medical services.

CLSH was originally opened at another location in 1906.
