5 behavioral health acquisitions in 2024

Despite a slow final quarter of 2023, investors expect mergers and acquisitions in the behavioral health sector to pick up in 2024.

Here are five behavioral health transactions that occurred this year, as reported by Becker's since Feb. 19:

1. California private equity firm HCAP Partners acquired Behavioral Medicine Associates, Workers Compensation Psychological Network and Reservoir Health, three behavioral health companies out of New York and New Jersey, with intent to merge the companies under PAX Health.

2. Franklin, Tenn.-based Acadia Healthcare acquired Turning Point Centers, a 72-bed substance use and mental health treatment provider in Salt Lake City.

3. Atlanta-based outpatient mental health platform Hightop Health purchased Austin, Texas-based Roots Behavioral Health.

4. Clark County in Nevada purchased an unused psychiatric hospital in Las Vegas for $10.4 million and plans to turn it into a behavioral health crisis stabilization center by year's end through a partnership with Las Vegas-based University Medical Center.

5. Baton Rouge, La.-based Beacon Behavioral Health Partners acquired nine new behavioral clinics — five in Texas, two in Mississippi, one in Arkansas and one in Louisiana — and expects to double its 2023 growth this year.
