5 behavioral M&A deals start 2025

A handful of major behavioral health acquisitions have been announced in the first weeks of 2025, including deals in telehealth, inpatient care and community living.

Here are five deals in January to note: 

  1. Austin, Texas-based Iris Telehealth acquired telepsychiatry provider innovaTel from Quartet Health, the company said in a Jan. 21 news release. The acquisition makes Iris Telehealth one of the largest telepsychiatry providers in the U.S., the company said.
  2. BrightSpring Health plans to sell its community living business to Sevita in an $835 million deal, the company said Jan. 21. Louisville, Ky.-based BrightSpring operates more than 2,000 residential homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and behavioral conditions.
  3. A federal bankruptcy court judge approved the sale of Wellpath’s behavioral health division for $395 million on Jan. 8. Wellpath, one of the largest providers of physical and mental healthcare in U.S. prisons, filed for bankruptcy in November. The company said it planned to sell its recovery division to a group of its lenders.
  4. Amwell sold its psychiatric telehealth business to Avel eCare for $21 million. The sale included Amwell Psychiatric Care’s technology, personnel and Asana, its psychiatric clinical network, according to a Jan. 9 news release.
  5. Plano, Texas-based Oceans Healthcare, a provider of inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services, acquired Nashville, Tenn.-based Haven Behavioral Healthcare. The deal expands Oceans’ network by seven behavioral health hospitals and outpatient locations in five states.
