Congress has extended certain telehealth flexibilities through the end of September.
On March 14, the Senate passed a bill extending current government funding through the end of September.
Three notes for behavioral health leaders:
- The bill removes the requirement that Medicare beneficiaries receiving telehealth behavioral care be seen in person every six months through the end of September.
- The legislation extends other telehealth flexibilities implemented at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, including removing geographic restrictions for non-behavioral health providers delivering telehealth.
- Lawmakers previously introduced legislation to make permanent telehealth flexibilities for Medicare beneficiaries receiving behavioral care. The proposal is backed by dozens of mental health groups.
