Congress has extended certain telehealth flexibilities through the end of September.

On March 14, the Senate passed a bill extending current government funding through the end of September.

Three notes for behavioral health leaders:

  1. The bill removes the requirement that Medicare beneficiaries receiving telehealth behavioral care be seen in person every six months through the end of September.
  2. The legislation extends other telehealth flexibilities implemented at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, including removing geographic restrictions for non-behavioral health providers delivering telehealth.
  3. Lawmakers previously introduced legislation to make permanent telehealth flexibilities for Medicare beneficiaries receiving behavioral care. The proposal is backed by dozens of mental health groups.
