Washington state lawmakers are mulling legislation that would tax businesses running social media platforms to fund youth behavioral health programs, The Olympian reported April 8.
If passed, the legislation would tax businesses operating social media sites. Revenues generated from the fund would be used for mental health initiatives, including funding a chief officer of youth behavioral health position in the governor’s office and a program for telehealth services.
Some mental health advocates backed the proposed bill, while others said the move could potentially raise costs for small businesses.
