Only 13% of survey respondents said they have shared concerns about ADHD with a physician, according to an Oct. 14 news release.
Here are three things to know:
- Recent CDC data show around 6% of the adult population, or 15 million people, have been diagnosed with ADHD.
- Younger adults were more likely to believe they have undiagnosed ADHD and more likely to seek treatment, the survey found.
- Around half of people with ADHD are diagnosed after age 18, according to the CDC.
- Trending social media videos could be one factor driving increased self-diagnoses of the condition, according to the news release. A 2022 study published in The Canadian Journal of Psychiatry found around half of the most popular videos about ADHD on Tik Tok were classified as misleading.
