Only 13% of survey respondents said they have shared concerns about ADHD with a physician, according to an Oct. 14 news release.

Here are three things to know:

  1. Recent CDC data show around 6% of the adult population, or 15 million people, have been diagnosed with ADHD.
  2. Younger adults were more likely to believe they have undiagnosed ADHD and more likely to seek treatment, the survey found.
  3. Around half of people with ADHD are diagnosed after age 18, according to the CDC.
  4. Trending social media videos could be one factor driving increased self-diagnoses of the condition, according to the news release. A 2022 study published in The Canadian Journal of Psychiatry found around half of the most popular videos about ADHD on Tik Tok were classified as misleading.
