Children’s Hospital Los Angeles received a $25 million donation to provide mental health services to children from birth to age 3, the Los Angeles Times reported April 15.
The financial gift came from the Tikun Olam Foundation of the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles. It will be used to expand mental health screening and services to an estimated 30,000 children ages 3 and under who come to the hospital for care. The program will focus on providing care to strengthen the bond between parents and children, and prevent issues from spiraling in the long term. It will also help train providers in infant and family mental health, and research the effectiveness of the program.
CHLA is one of the first hospitals in the country to provide universal infant-family mental health services. Currently, the hospital provides mental health services to about 1,800 children each year.
