Tasha Saunders operated two behavioral health companies that submitted fraudulent Medicaid claims between 2019 and 2024, according to a March 4 news release from Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown.
Ms. Saunders created a “sophisticated system” to generate fake patient records to submit to Medicaid, according to the attorney general. She stole the identities of healthcare providers, according to the attorney general, to bill claims in their names.
Ms. Saunders was sentenced to prison for a prior Medicaid fraud conviction. In 2021, she pleaded guilty to stealing the identities of licensed counselors and submitting fraudulent Medicaid claims, and was sentenced to nine months.
As a result of the conviction, Ms. Saunders was barred from the Medicaid program by federal authorities. According to the attorney general, she lied on her Medicaid provider application to hide her affiliation with the behavioral health companies she created after her conviction.
Ms. Saunders is scheduled to be sentenced in July.
