Texas plans $34M behavioral health campus

Construction is set to begin on a $34 million, 32-bed behavioral health facility in Uvalde, Texas.

The facility is slated to open in 2025, according to a April 22 news release from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. The campus will house a 16-bed crisis unit for adults and a 16-bed children and adolescent crisis unit. The facility will also provide outpatient programs serving 32 counties surrounding Uvalde.

The Texas legislature allocated funding for the project in the wake of the mass shooting at Uvalde's Robb Elementary School in 2022, according to the Austin American-Statesman. The city of Uvalde donated the 7-acre site for the behavioral health facility.
